A Couple Of Days In Piedmont - Visit To Garesio

Garesio
Located in Serralunga, the new winery towers up when you drive up the narrow road, and a future hotel is under construction. A 24 ha large estate, producing ca 85.000 bottles per year.
I was greeted by Marta who showed me the winery and let me taste a fine range of the Garesio line up.

2020 Resilio
This Sauvignon Blanc offers up a fine, fruity nose with notes of lime, grass and gravel. Very nice.
The taste is fresh and forward with an assortment of yellow fruits and a good acidity.

2018 Gavelli
This Nizza Barbera has a rich, open nose with a fine raspberry fruit, with some blueberries tossed in. Warm.
The taste is broad and concentrated with notes of ripe raspberries, moccha and asphalt. Long.

2019 Langhe Nebbiolo
A cool, earthy nose with notes of red cherries, mosquito repellent, rosehips and leather. Very, very good.
The taste is seedy and nicely structured with very good fruit, polished tannins and  a fine finish. 3+ years.

2018 Barolo Serralunga d´Alba
A focused, fine nose with notes of hard cherry candy, red apples, fresh flowers and gravel. A fine lightness.
The taste is cool and seedy with notes of hard cherry candy, sand, rosehips and a hint of tobacco. Very, very good. 6+ years.

2015 Barolo Serralunga d´Alba
A fine, elegant nose with notes of dried cherries, gravel and licorice. A little sturdy.
The taste is seedy and warm with fine fruit, a good structure and a fine lenght. 4+ years.

2017 Barolo Serralunga d´Alba
There is a touch of dried up warmth on the nose but the fruit is forward and fine with notes of mocha, forest floor and ripe flowers.
The taste is tight and fine with notes of ripe cherries, tobacco, gravel and rosehips. Fine tannins. 6+ years.

2018 Barolo Gianetto
A very deep, laid back nose with refinement and notes of rose petals, red currants, red cherries, forest floor and asphalt. Complex and fine.
The taste is young and racy with notes of rosehips, red cherries, paint, licorice and a touch of mint. Long and lingering. Really fine. 8+ years.

2016 Barolo Gianetto
The first vintage of Gianetto from Garesio, it offers up a tight, focused nose with more stuffing than the 18 but the same level of quality. Lots of sweet/sour cherries, licorice, gravel and polished mahogany.
The taste is taut and concentrated with a very fine cherry fruit, polished tannins and a long, tight finish. Needs 8+ years. Really fine.

2016 Barolo Riserva Cerretta
Just lovely. Their first ever Riserva and this delivers the goods. A focused, restrained nose with boatloads of hard cherry candy, incense, spices and asphalt. Very, very deep.
The taste is pure and focused with stunning fruit, forceful yet balanced tannins and a finish counted in minutes. Great wine. 10+ years.

2021 Langhe Nebbiolo
Then I got to taste some wines from cask. The -19 LB from both cask and amphora. The amphora version was open and fruit driven with notes of Finnish licorice, moist earth and spices. The wine from the big cask was tighter but more classic with fine tar & roses notes. I bet that the final mix will be very good indeed.

2021 Barolo Serralunga d´Alba
The Serralunga Barolo shows of a tight, seedy nose with notes of raspberries, spices and dusty earth. Rather closed.
The taste is even tighter with all fruit locked up, rather hard to evaluate today.

2021 Barolo Cerretta
The Cerretta on the other hand is a beauty, with fine notes of fresh flowers, red licorice, tobacco and earth. Very deep and fine.
The taste is structured and elegant with lots of ripe cherry fruit, silky tannins and a long, stern finish. Will turn out great.
