A Couple Of Days In Piedmont - Visit To Silvano Bolmida

Silvano Bolmida
This was a stellar visit. Having never tasted anything from this producer I was looking forward to this visit.
Silvano´s first vintage was 2001 (a great vintage to start!) and he has previously worked at Fratelli Barale - Barolista: A Couple Of Days In Piedmont - Visits To Fratelli Barale & Chionetti
Silvano has a laser like focus, brims with energy and displays a genuine love of all that is Langhe.

Silvano was Italian style late and I had cramped my schedule a bit to much so Silvano took my Barolista alias ad notam and decided that we had time to taste some Baroli. A Bussia vertical none the less. :-)
We also had time to conduct a glass tasting with several different glasses, and the ones that still thinks that glasses doesn´t make a difference should persue another interest.

2021 Barolo Bussia
80 days on the skins. Yes, you read it right, 80 days. Then one year old barriques from Bordeaux. The result? Stunning.
The nose from cask has a whiff of oak that blow away with air. Then its all about purity and refinement with notes of ripe red cherries, dry licorice, earth and rosehips. Lovely.
The taste  is young (!), tight and elegant with racy tannins, a full frontal red fruit and a racy balance. A great wine in the making.
~94p   (tasted 2022/09)

2021 Barolo Le Coste di Monforte
A very deep, tight nose with notes of dark cherries, licorice and a hint of dark chcocolate. More masculine than the Bussia. Very fine.
The taste is tight and seedy with notes of black cherries, dark chocolate, earth and iron. Taut. Impressive, will need lots of time in the bottle.
~92p   (tasted 2022/09)

2016 Barolo Riserva Bussia
Ooooh boy, what a wine. The nose is just brilliant with a high energy and focus with notes of hard cherry candy, fresh flowers, forest floor and dry licorice. Stunning.
The taste is concentrated and pure with perfect polished tannins, stunning cherry fruit, a minute long finish and a silky freshness. Beautiful. 8+ years.
96p   (tasted 2022/09)

2017 Barolo Bussia
A handsome, light nose with a fine intensity and notes of hard cherry candy, earth, dry licorice and leather. Very, very good.
The taste is tight and seedy with notes of ripe black cherries, earth, candle grease and licorice. Stern tannins. Needs time. 6+ years.
92p   (tasted 2022/09)

2018 Barolo Bussia
A focused, somewhat restrained nose with notes of ripening cherries, licorice, rosehips and Langhe earth. Very fine.
The taste is pure, tight and concentrated with everything except maturity in place. Long, long, long. Very fine. 8+ years.
94p   (tasted 2022/09)

2013 Barolo Bussia
A racy, refined nose with notes of perfect ripe cherries, forest floor, a deep salty touch and lots of rosehips. Just brilliant.
The taste is finely concentrated with a restrained structure, silky tannins, a minute long finish and a great mouthfeel. From my favourite vintage the past 15 years, this delivers the goods. 6+ years.
95p   (tasted 2022/09)

2010 Barolo Bussia Dei Fantini
Only 70 days on the skins... A very deep, focused nose with a hint of maturity and beautiful notes of hard cherry candy, Langhe earth, candle grease, paint and dry licorice. Great wine.
The taste is still tight, concentrated and just awesome with stunning fruit, tannins and acidity. The finish is counted in minutes. Really, really fine. 5+ years.
