A Bottle Of Bubbly - NV Cuvée de Femme, Charles Ellner

NV Cuvée de Femme, Charles Ellner
A no longer made cuvée, according to their website. For a budget bubbly - 28 Euro - this delievers the goods. The nose is upfront and fine with notes of mature red apples, bisquits, walnuts and dark oranges. Very, very good.
The taste ís light and fresh with notes of earth, red apples, dried nuts and some herbal notes. A fine finish. Not heaps of complexity but a very fine drink.

1996 Barolo Ciabot Bertoni, Luigo Oberto

1996 Barolo Ciabot Bertoni, Luigo Oberto
It was three years ago sine I last tasted a bottle of this Barolo. It displays the same characteristic as the last bottle but maybe the dried flowers and dried red berries are more at the forefront.
The taste feels the same and it isn´t a dry note in the long finish. Very, very good. The 96´s are really coming around to drink, let the younger vintages rest.

1990 Vigorello, San Felice

1990 Vigorello, San Felice
Vigorello was one of the first Super Tuscans with 1968 as the first commercial vintage (of which I have a bottle, I wonder if its mature enough...) Back then in was 100% Sangiovese. From 1979 Cabernet was added to the blend and nowadays the blend is roughly 60%  Sangiovese and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon.
The nose is fine and fresh, feeling younger than its 31 years, with notes of fresh stables, plums, red and black currants, tobbaco and a hint of green peppers. Very fine.
The taste is tight and refined with notes of plums, dried black currants, tiles and iron. A very fine structure. Raedy for prime time drinking but bottles like this will go on for 7+ years.

Three Bottles of Bubbly

These were tasted a couple of weeks ago when I arranged a tasting dinner with 1990 Brunello as the main focus, but we also drank some other bottles from that vintage.

1990 Millésime Resérvé, Henri Abelé
A round and very mature nose with notes of autumn apples, almond paste, linoleum and warm tiles. Good.
The taste is nice and soft with no bubbles and notes of old wrinkled apples, almonds and damp earth. Drinking fine but some years behind its zenit.
86p   (tasted 2021/09)

1990 Cuvée Dom Perignon
A mature, smoky nose with notes of dry caramel, coffee powder, cream and autumn apples. Deep and fine but now and again there is a funky cellar note, not corked but an impression that it isn´t a perfect bottle.
The taste confirms the nose, a very fine mature character, even elegant, but there is a hint of something that shouldn´t be there. But we had no problems finishing the bottle.
90p   (tasted 2021/09)

2008 Millésimé 1er Cru, Gaidoz Forget
After the dinner was finished we yearned for something fresh and bubbly. This 2008 sports a high, seedy nose with notes of red currants, orange blossom, red apples and smoke. Very, very good.

2017 Dolcetto d`Alba Le Liste, Erbaluna
When opened a bit funky and barnyardy on the nose but it blew away within a couple of hours. Deep and fine with notes of red beets, fir wood, red currants and some smoke. Very, very good.
The taste is tight and dry with notes of red currants, ripening blueberries, violets and gravel. Some fine polished tannins. Medium bodied. For drinking now and the coming 6+ years.
In training for the next weekend when Dolcetto Boys & Girls get together and taste 17 Dolcetto’s!
