2010 & 2013 Barolo La Tartufaia, Giulia Negri

2010 Barolo La Tartufaia, Giulia Negri
The 2010 is a stunning wine - the nose soars up from the glass (after one hour decanting) with gorgeous notes of sweet/sour cherries, dried figs, mushrooms, fresh roses and hints of scorched earth. Deep, precise and very fine.
The taste is concentrated and multi layered with notes of hard cherry candy, asphalt, dried herbs, chewing tobacco and shoe polish. Handsome tannins, very much still in play. A very fine structure. Still needs 4+ years and will go on for 15+ years.

2013 Barolo La Tartufaia, Giulia Negri
Three years younger and a different player. Keeping with the vintage the 13 is leaner and more refined than the 10, with lovely notes of dried herbs, dried strawberries, rain drenched earth and paint. Very fine.
The taste is tight and seedy with notes of dried roses, hard cherry candy, dry licorice and mushrooms. A long, stern finish with perky tannins. Needs time, at least 6+ years. Time in hand. Me, loving the 13 vintage, will stock up.

  1. Dear Joakim, Many Thanks for clear tasting notes, which I prefer to the "professional" wine press reviews of G Negri. I share your passion for 2010 LT, bought a few on release, by miracle in South Africa, we don't get many Piedmont wines.
Would highly value your tasting notes of La Delizia 2013, Serradineri 13/15/16 and Marassio 2016 if you have tried any.
Best wishes from JHB and Thanks again!

    1. Hi, and thanks for your comment! I visited the estate about a year ago - https://barolista.blogspot.com/2020/02/the-barolo-boys-in-piedmont-visits-to.html
On the same trip I tasted all the 2016 Baroli from Giulia and also met her there - https://barolista.blogspot.com/2020/02/2016-barolo-at-grandi-langhe.html
