Two Baroli Tonight - 1998 Pajana & Ciabot Mentin Ginestra, Domenico Clerico

1998 Barolo Pajana, Domenico Clerico
The Pajana needs two hours in a decanter to really open up, and then it displays a spicy, deep nose with notes of forest floor, warm tiles, a freshly cut Christmas tree and dried black cherries. Concentrated and fine. Very, very good.
The taste is polished, fine and semi mature with notes of asphalt, spices, sweet/sour cherries and fir wood. Very long. Almost fully mature, give in 5 more years.

1998 Barolo Ciabot Mentin Ginestra, Domenico Clerico
The Ciabot needed even more time to open up, and then it displays a deep, concentrated nose with notes of mulberries, dark cherries, sweet violets, dark bread and asphalt. Very complex and fine.
The taste is truly wonderful with a perfect mix of mature black fruits, tannins and acidity. Notes of rosehips, ripe black cherries, cold coffee, iron and forest floor. The lenght is counted in minutes. A great wine today and the coming 8+ years.
