This evening, after a whole day of art galleries and a long walk in the woods, it was time for some food - and a pasta with a mushrooms sauce fit perfectly with this mature Barolo.
1993 Barolo, Gianfranco Alessandria
A lovingly mature, deep and upfront nose with notes of muscovado sugar dusted cherries, rosehips, autumn leaves, old expensive leather and a touch of menthol. A very fine maturity. Some chocolate mousse aromas. Ready now.
The taste is more tight, but mature and round with notes of sweet/sour cherries, dried mushrooms, rosehips, licorice and dark chocolate. A medium long, dry finish with some sturdy tannins that needs the cream in the pasta sauce. A fine mature Barolo.
