I have been lucky to buy quite a few vintages of the Barbaresco Normale from the Produttori in recent times. Time to test drive two of them.
1990 Barbaresco, Produttori del Barbaresco
A deep, finely matured nose with lots of undergrowth, autumn leaves and mushrooms. With air notes of dried cherries, rosehips and iron rises up from the glass. A fine old style firmness. Very, very good.
The taste is medium bodied, dry and balanced with notes of dried cherries, dried flowers, rust and old leather. A firm structure. A fine acidity and mouthfeel. Cool and fine even if it comes from a warm year. Fully mature but will surely hold for another 5+ years.
90p (tasted 2017/08)
1996 Barbaresco, Produttori del Barbaresco
The 96 is a beauty. The nose is deep, somewhat mature with notes of cranberries, hard cherry candy, ripe red flowers and a touch of band aid too add to the complexity. Deep and fine.
The taste is tight, seedy and structured with the feeling of chewing on cherry pips alongside notes of leather, iron, tobacco and rosehips. A long, balanced finish. Will hit full maturity in 6+ years. Great wine.
92p (tasted 2017/08)
