2017 5 Finques Reserva, Castillo de Perelada
A fine, herbal nose with notes of assorted red fruits, tobacco, earth and balsamic notes.
The taste is somewhat mature and good with sour/sweet red fruit, licorice, tobacco and dusty earth.

2016 Vinya Selva de Mar, Mas Estela
This beauty is made from Garnatxa Negra, Syrah and Carinyena. The nose is big and beautiful with notes
of plums, black cherries, violets and scorched earth. Very deep.
The taste is tight and complex with notes of black pepper, smoke, plums and Finnish licorice. Very long. 6+ years.

2015 Coma Fredosa, Hugas de Batlle
A tight, fine nose with notes of herbs, black currants, iron, raw rubber and tar. Very, very good.
The taste is cool and old viney with notes of black currants, iron, herbs and tobacco. Handle its 14,5% with ease. Holds very well over three days. 4+ years.

2018 Langhe Nebbiolo Spetacôl, Renato Fenocchio
A fine, elegant, light nose with notes of red currants, mushrooms, paint and asphalt. Very, very good.
The taste is cool and fine with notes of red currants, fennel licorice, tobacco and chrushed rocks. Silky tannins. 4+ years.

A deep, spicy nose with notes of ripe red cherries, fir wood, shoe polish and licorice. Warm and fine.
The taste is tight and fine with notes of spiced up cherries, chocolate wafers and dry licorice. Very long. 6+ years.

20 Anos Setubal Moscatel Roxo, J. M. da Fonseca
A very deep, complex nose with notes of caramelized orange, dry honey, lavender and sugared cold coffee. Very fine.
The taste is brilliant with structure, intensity and layers upon layers of sweet dried fruit, a fine acidity and a length that is counted in minutes. Will go on for decades.

2021 Chianti Classico, Castello di Querceto
A light, elegant nose with notes of red currants, gravel, red tea and violets. Young and very, very good.
The taste is tight and dry with notes of dried red cherries, road dust, licorice and dried herbs. A tad linear in the finish. 3+ years.

A stony, restrained nose with notes of red cherries, herbs, hay and dry tobacco. Very, very good in a stern style.
The taste is tight and elegant with notes of red currants, chrushed rock, rosemary and asphalt. Long and fine. Needs 6+ years.

1997 Barolo Pajana, Domenico Clerico
A very deep, earthy nose, showing some maturity and fine notes of dried cherries, violets, fried mushrooms and asphalt. A gorgeous Langhe earth aroma after some time in the glass.
The taste is deep and rich with notes of sandelwood, licorice, dried up cherry jam and forest floor. A long, long finish with silky tannins. Will go on for another 6+ years, last tasted five years ago - Barolista: Election Barolo - 1997 Barolo Pajana, Domenico Clerico - when I said the same thing...

1959 Bordeaux - Six Bottles Tasted


I opened these bottles for our latest tasting in our monthly tasting group. I didn´t really expect all to perform well so I had a bunch of reserv bottles standing by. 
All were opened 4 hours before the tasting and decanted just 30 minutes before the first pour. The held up all evening and in some cases improved.

1959 Château Croque Michotte
A fine, sandy nose with notes of a worn leather jacket, dried plums, bonfire smoke and undergrowth. Low keyed and silky.
The taste is dry and medium bodied with notes of dried red and black currants, cold cofffe and old leather. A tad dry in the finish.

1959 Château La Tour du Pin Figeac
A deep, velvety nose with notes of plums, chocolate wafers, autumn leaves and coca-cola. Very, very good.
The taste is warm and open for business with lots of black fruit and a long, fine finish. Plums, coffee and chocolate. Bottles like this should go on for 5+ years.

1959 Château Chatain
My WOTN. I have never heard of, let alone tasted anything from this Lalande-de-Pomerol. A deep, layered nose with notes of fresh stables, black plums, moist forest floor and chewing tobacco. A lovely sweetness to the fruit.
The taste is concentrated and rich with notes of plums, raisins, tobacco and earth. Very long and balanced. Wish I had more of this.

1959 Château Larrivet-Haut-Brion
A somewhat restrained nose with notes of sandelwood, chocolate, black currants and warm tiles. Soft and fine.
The taste is dry and mature (!) with notes of dried black currants, autumn leaves and cigarette ashes. Tails of rather hastily. Fine fruit.

1959 Château Leoville Las Cases
I had high hopes for this one, but was disappointed. The nose is big and warm with notes of cooked red and black currants, burned earth, rubber and bonfire smoke. Feels like it have been stored a bit too warm.
The taste is tight and dry with cooked, dried fruit and notes of coffee, old leather and earth. Ends on a dry notes. Drinkable but not good.

1959 Château Phelan Ségur
A deep, seedy nose with notes of ripe black currants, charcoal, iron and lots of forest floor. Very, very good.
The taste is still rather tight, indicating that this has some future potential. Long and intense with notes of graphite, black tea and ripe black currants. A fine grip in the finish. 5+ years.

2018 Barolo Brunate, Francesco Borgogno
A finely tuned, medium deep nose with notes of red currants, some strawberries, paint, forest floor and lots of licorice. Very, very good.
The taste is young and silky with notes of hard cherry candy, dry licorice, mushrooms and asphalt. A fine lenght. More linear than the 2019 which I recently tasted at the cantina - Barolista: A Couple Of Days In Piedmont - Visit To Francesco Borgogno.

Two Bottles Of Chardonnay

2019 Mercurey 1er Cru Clos Marcilly Monopole, Les Héritiers Saint-Genys
A refined, cool nose with notes of smoke, peach, pine nuts almonds and fresh flowers. Very complex and fine.
The taste is racy and elegant with notes of white currants, assorted nuts, cap gun smoke, white flowers and flint. Long, aristocratic. 4+ years.

2019 Mt. Harlan Chardonnay, Calera
A open, creamy nose with notes of ripe red apples, lemon cream, dried flowers and fudge. Rich and smoky.
The taste is tight and intense with notes of cookie dough, smoke, red apples and a touch of pineapple. Very long. 2+ years.

A Bunch Of Good & Great Bottles

The Whites
2020 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Boudriettes, Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard
A refined, cool nose with notes of lemon fudge, white flowers, grey pears and lots of minerals. Very fine.
The taste is young, tight and crisp with gorgeous fruit, a high acidity and a long, intense finish. Great wine. 6+ years.

2022 Muschelkalk Silvaner, Leopold
A upfront, juicy nose with notes of pear ice cream, tangerines, grape and chalk. Very, very good.
The taste is tight and seedy with notes of white peach, chalk and chrushed rocks. Needs time.

2014 Scheurebe Kabinett, Keller
As usual, a stunner. The distinctive aroma og grapefruit oozes up from the glass alongside notes of apricots, dried flowers and chrushed rocks.
The taste is stony and fresh with notes of grapefruit, apricots, lime and minerals. Pure as a mountain river. No signs of aging. Could go on forever.

2005 Trittenheimer Apotheke Riesling Spätlese, Grans-Fassian
A fine, soft, mature nose with notes of dried yellow apples, petrol and sun warm rocks.
The taste is round and silky with notes of candied fruit, some rubbery notes and flint. Fully mature.

2010 Meursault Charmes, Antoine Jobard
A deep, smoky nose with notes of ripe red apples, dark fudge, fried nuts and dried flowers. Hints of maturity. Very fine.
The taste is structured and tight with notes of yellow plums, dried flowers, chalk and nuts. A very fine acidity. 4+ years.

2014 Barbaresco Montestefano, La Ca Nóva
A handsome, elegant nose with notes of licorice, Langhe earth and ripening red cherries. Very fine.
The taste is cool and refined with a lovely balance, fine red fruit and a long, silky finish. 4+ years.

2008 Barolo Villero, Brovia
A deep, somewhat nature nose with notes of dried cherries, violets, earth and warm tiles.
The taste is tighter than the nose leads on, with notes of hard cherry candy, tobacco, licorice and earth. Broad tannins in the finish. 4+ years.

2003 Château Montrose
Evolving at a snails pace. Drunk last time at my 100 year Montrose tasting - Barolista: 100 Years Of Château Montrose - 1911-2011 - The Notes - maybe a tad more mature notes, but this will go on 20+ years. Great wine.

2020 Château Montrose
Apparently a 100 point wine all over the place. At this stage in its life, not for me. The nose jumps put of the glass with notes of cool black currants, espresso, charcoal and cool asphalt. Very, very deep.
The taste is very, very young, rich and concentrated with lots of tannins, lots of black fruit and lots of potential. Oooh, so young. Give this 20+ years, at least.

NV No 11 Hoffman Dollwitz, Sami-Odi
This Barossa beauty offers up a deep, handsome nose with ethereal notes of tobacco, beet root, moist earth, black fruit and wet dog fur. Immensly impressive.
The taste is brilliant with finesse, refinement and lots and lots of black fruit. A minute long finish. Truly exceptional. 
A kind of Solera wine - 46% of 2021, 18% of 2020, 16% of 2019, 2% of 2018, 9% of 2017, 5% of 2016 and 4% of 2015.

2006 Flaccianello, Fontodi
A deep, tight nose with notes of rosemary spiced black cherries, licorice, tobacco, new leather and a Tuscan gravel road. Very, very fine.
The taste is tight and concentrated with notes of nougat, black cherries, tobacco, warm tiles and sugared coffee. Very, very long. 6+ years.

A bottomless deep nose with stunning notes of wool, candied apricots, almond paste and ginger. Very complex and fine.
The taste is racy and refined with notes of yellow raisins, wool, ginger ice cream and toasted almonds. A minute long finish. 10+ years.

A fine, smoky nose with notes of ginger, yellow apples, white flowers and sand. Some grilled lemons after a while. Very, very good.
The taste is balanced and fine with notes of chrushed stones, dry peach, grapefruit and smoke. A fine acidity. Even better than last year - Barolista: A Bottle Of Bubbly - 2010 Esprit de Victoria Bland de Blancs, Joseph Perrier
