A Fantastic Spring Dinner

L & M invited to their annual spring dinner. It turned out to be, yet again, an amazing night with great food and wine. All tasted double blind.

NV Anthieme Extrême Les 300, Domaine Collet
We couldn´t be sure but this probably is the first vintage of this wine, the 2013, but the label doesn´t say. Only a 300 liter barrel is made. The nose is smoky and fine with notes of toasted bread, ramson, gravel and red apples. Very fine.
The taste is high and seedy with a restrained character, a high acidity and long, balanced finish. Still on the young side of things.

2011 Doppelstück, Dönnhoff
A stony, withdrawn nose with notes of dried herbs, lemon peel and oyster shells.
The taste is cool and fine with notes of pickled ginger, lemon and gravel. Made from Weissburgunder and Grauburgunder.
87p   (tasted 2024/05)

2019 Riesling Limestone Kabinett, Keller
A definitive nose of freshly opened Lego package! Then also notes of candied lemons, herbs and white flowers emerge. Very, very good.
The taste is finely tuned with notes of freshly cut grass, lemon peel and dried flowers. A very fine acidity.
90p   (tasted 2024/05)

2019 Piesporter Goldtröpchen Riesling Kabinett, Julian Haart
The others were let down by this wine but since I haven´t tasted this before, I was happy to drink it. The nose is cool and fresh with notes of peach, whote flowers and sun soaked gravel.
The taste is tight and racy with notes of candied lemons, peach and gravel. Maybe a tad bitter on the finish.
88p   (tasted 2024/05)

2019 Riesling Limestone Kabinett Goldcapsel, Keller
A fresh, structured nose with notes of dried passionfruit, smoke, grass and salted crisps. Very fine.
The taste is tight and elegant with a high acidity, stern yellow fruit, a fine smoky note and a long, long finish. A step up from the ordinary Limestone.
92p   (tasted 2024/05)

2019 Oberhäuser Leistenberg Riesling Kabinett, Dönnhoff
A cool, crisp nose with notes of dried apricots, chrushed rocks and a petrol station in a distance.
The taste is dry and cristallin with notes of dried up lemoncello, gravel and white flowers.
90p   (tasted 2024/05)

2022 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Pure Clairette, Raymond Usseglio
How often do I drink white Rhone wines? Never! Very fun tasting these bottles. The 100% Clairette from Usseglio offers up a large scaled, intense nose with notes of linoleum, dried orange peel, sun warm rocks and smoke. Gorgeous.
The taste is large scaled and nicely concentrated with lovely fruit, a fine acidity and a long, rich finish. Very fine.
94p   (tasted 2024/05)

2018 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rousanne, Raymond Usseglio
A ripe, seemingly mature nose with notes of dried oranges, autumn apples, warm gravel and dried herbs.
The taste is ripe and dry with notes of orange peel, moist earth and dried herbs. A blotting paper note. A bit to advanced.

A deep, focused nose with notes of red apples, spices, warm grass and dried apricots. Very fine.

2009 Merlot Filip, Miani
A cool, spicy, somewhat mature nose with notes of blueberries, salt licorice, smoke and tobacco. Very, very fine.
The taste is still tight and slightly peppery with notes of plums, dried meat and gravel. A beautiful tannin structure. Lovely.
95p   (tasted 2024/05)

2012 Merlot Filip, Miani
A deep, earthy nose with notes of plums, black cherries, asphalt and some wood. Very, very good.

2005 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Château de Beaucastel
An open, dusty nose with notes of iron, sugared coffee, fried herbs and soya. Deep and fine.

2005 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Clos des Papes
A deep, inky nose with notes of black olives, undergrowth, fir wood and asphalt. A fine warmth.
The taste is tight and fiery with taut black fruit, a broad structure and a long, warm finish.
