2007 Brunello di Montalcino, Col d´Orcia
It needed an hour in a decanter to really open up, but then a big glass had already disappeared...
The nose is seedy, cool and fine with notes of red cherries, dried rosemary, violet pastilles, a hint of tobacco and a dry Tuscan gravel road. For the fruit hunter this will be disappointing, but this is really up my alley tonight. Very, very good.
The taste is cool, a tad withdrawn with red currants, cherry pips, dry liquorice, a bucket full of gravel, a bonfire in a distance and some rose petals. A fine warmth in the finish. Tasted 18 months ago, and then it was more black than red in character, but equally good. This is good stuff.
