After attending a US West Coast Tasting - tasting 30+ Pinot Noir´s (only because I focused on that variety, there were 700+ wines on show) - what did I open on returning home.....a Pinot Noir of course! :-)
Info here.
2011 Hirsch Vineyards San Andreas Fault Estate Pinot Noir
The San Andreas Fault is their flagship Pinot. It need some serious air time to really open up but when it does it is all about enjoyment. Lovely notes of raspberry liquorice, beet root juice, rhubarbs, undergrowth and some bonfire aromas. Very, very good. Balanced.
The taste is structured yet generous with notes of mashed lingon- and raspberries, rosehips, earth and bakelite. A very fine acidity. A long, fine finish with a lovely mouth feel. Worked wonders with a dish of grilled veal fillets with a lukewarm salad of assorted mushrooms, sun dried tomatoes, spinach and grated Gruyere, and a Marsala sauce.
93p (tasted 2015/03)
