1997 Rosso di Montalcino Val di Suga, Tenimenti Angelini

The 1999 was really good lately, so I opened a 1997. They seem to have changed labels between 97 and 99, I prefer the old fashioned style of the label above.

1997 Rosso di Montalcino Val di Suga, Tenimenti Angelini
A mature, leathary nose with notes of dried plums, warm rosemary, veal stock and red liquorice. A very fine warmth. Fully mature. Big and a bit brawny, but very good all the same. Dried flowers after a while.
The taste is broad and ripe with notes of black currants, plums, violets, rosehips and old leather. A long, warm, structured finish. This is very good and drinking perfect with a roasted chicken.
I don't know how many times I have heard that the 97's from Tuscany are long gone and equally many times the wines have proved those comments wrong. This is another one of those bottles.
