On The Road - 1990 Barolo, Cordero di Montezemolo

I yearned for a mature Barolo to go with some fine Italian delicatessen - truffle and fennel salami, aged Serrano ham, a rabbit paté and some cheeses from a local producer on Öland. I opened this Barolo and it worked wonders with the food and on its own.

1990 Barolo, Cordero di Montezemolo
Right out of the gate this aged beauty displays aromas of a damp mushroom forest, red cherries, sweet beet roots, veal stock and some haunting truffle scents. Very, very good. Perfectly mature. A very fine sweetness to the fruit. Round and fine.
The taste is mature, dry and old fashioned with notes of red cherries, autumn leaves, rosehips and dried mushrooms. The finish is long, sturdy and warm. Very drinkable. Fully mature. Some foursquare tannins at the very end. Very, very good. Behaved exactly the same on day two.
