Carlo & John - you win the grand prize - a dinner at my place whenever you come to Stockholm! :-)
The correct answer is - from left - 1968, 1978 & 1988 Fattoria Dei Barbi and then 1977, 1995 & 2004 Biondi Santi - and the 1995 Biondi Santi the winner, for my palate. Notes to follow.
Some had it as their favourite - it was very much still alive but I think that the 78 Barbi and the 95 and 04 Biondi Santi was better. I gave it 90p - it was really good though! :-)
I just opened a 1977 Biondi Santi 4 weeks ago at a tasting with 14 other Brunello in my garden, and for me it was the 2nd best wine of the evening, see my list: Rosso di Montalcino Siro Pacenti 2010 - 90 P Rosso di Montalcino Vasco Sassetti 2006 - 92 P Brunello di Montalcino San Filippo 2007 - 88 P Brunello di Montalcino Val diSuga 2007 - 90 P Brunello di Montalcino Caparzo 2007 - 91 P Brunello die Montalcino Collosorbo 2007 - 93 P Brunello die Montalcino Vasco Sasetti 2007 - 95 P Brunello di Montalcino Fuligni 2006 - 92 P Brunello di Montalcino Altesino ”Montosoli” 2006 - 96 P Brunello di Montalcino Siro Pacenti 2006 - 92 P Brunello di Montalcino Ricci 2004 - 93 P Brunello di Montalcino Collemattoni 1997 - 85 P Brunello di Montalcino La Gerla 1990 - 93 P Brunello di Montalcino Il Poggione Riserva 1988 - 98 P Brunello di Montalcino Il Greppo Biondi Santi 1977 - 97 P
Nice line up! I agree with you on the 06 Fuligni and 90 La Gerla! But unfortunately so was the 77 Biondi-Santi not up to par - I think it have been handled badly somewhere along the line - but glad you had a great bottle! And I obviously have to look out for the 88 Il Poggione Riserva - I have the 2001, soon to be tasted.
Barbi Colombini ??
ReplyDeleteI'm with Carlo. That was my first thought. Old Barbi Brunello.

Joakim,
ReplyDeleteI am "vintage" 1968. I am very curious to see how the Barbi showed.
