1987 Brunello di Montalcino, Conti Costanti

I opened the first bottle from my Easter egg yesterday. It complimented perfectly some hand made saugeses, grilled vegetables and a garlic sauce.

1987 Brunello di Montalcino, Conti Costanti
It opens a bit shy and need one hour in the decanter before it starts to blossom in the glass. When it does, oh boy, this is good! Wonderful attenuated yet prominent notes of autumns aromas - wrinkled leaves, decaying flowers, damp earth - and additional scents of sweet tobacco, a stale cherry Clafouti, viol pastilles and candied blood orange peel. Very complex. A could sit and sniff this all night long.
But I got to taste it! It has a mellow, mature, sweet character with similar notes as on the nose, although the tobacco is a bit drier and the autumn leaves have just caught fire. The finish is long and full of interest. Fully mature, like a dowager, still with a twinkle in her eye. Great stuff!
