Drinking Tonight - 1996 Château Ferrand

After a fantastic tasting dinner last night with 2009 Echezeaux, DRC, 1995 Deutz Blanc de Blancs, 1995 Château Haut-Bailly and 1995 Heytesbury Chardonnay (notes to follow) as the shining stars, I opted for something more basic on this evening, to go along some pork chops with a cauliflower and broccoli purée.

1996 Château Ferrand
Popped and poured, this Pomerol needed some time in the glass to unfold fine aromas of ripe plums, sugared coffee, tobacco and undergrowth. Some maturity. This is good. Evolves nicely over the evening. A fine sweetness to the fruit.
The taste is modestly mature, warm and soft but with a fine backbone and notes of plums, tobacco, forest floor and smoke. A fine finish with velvety tannins. Drinking perfectly on this evening. Very, very good.
