Last night I was longing for a mature Sangiovese. This bottle really surpassed my expectations - nice when that happens!
1993 Chianti Classico, Castello Dei Rampolla
A mature, fine, soft nose with notes of dried sour/sweet cherries, atumn leaves, dried mushrooms, balsamic vinegar and some barnyardy notes. Put on some weight with air. Great maturity. Very, very good.
The taste is like sweet cherry lemonade but with additional power, structure and complexity. Notes of dried cherries, dry tobacco, leather and some warm gravel. A long, sandy finish. This is a perfect drinking Sangiovese - just what I needed this night!
