Vacation Wine Diary - Day 15 - Rosso di Montalcino

Dear Diary

It is hot. Really hot. 28 degrees Celsius today, and it has been like this for a couple of days. Some nice beers have been gulped down, but I need some wine too. Later in the evening it is time to open a bottle to along some cheese. I need this.

2001 Rosso di Montalcino Vigna della Fonte, Ciacci Piccolomini d´Aragona
A mature, warm and spicy nose with notes of crushed black currants, dry tobacco, hot gravel, dried rosenmary and some dark chocolate. Very good. It becomes more velvety on the nose with air. Still fresh. This has matured nicely.
The taste is big, warm and round with notes of sweet black cherries, burned meat, balsamic vinegar, dried herbs and a hot gravel road. It has a fresh acidity and some fine cherry bitter tannins. Long and warm. Very good. Fully mature and should be drunk sooner than later.
