Almost 1,5 years ago I drank this beauty, and after tasting it, I got hold of some bottles. Time to check one out.
1999 Brunello di Montalcino, Fanti Tenuta San Filippo
Upon opening it is fairly muted, but after 2 hours in a decanter, it really blossoms in the glass. A deep, dark nose with notes of ripe black cherries, butter fried rosemary, lots of warm tiles and some new leather. Really fine and complex. Fresh violets after a while. Still young.
The taste is taut and impressive with a great mouthfeel and notes of red and black cherries, warm gravel, sweet flowers, rosemary and a touch of bonfire. A very long, intense finish with plenty of well mannered tannins. This will benefit from 3-5 years in the cellar, if I can hold my corkscrew away for that long...
94p (tasted 2014/11)
