This Haut-Medoc shows of a young, tight nose with notes of new leather, blackberries, graphite and fresh herbs. Very, very good.
The taste is structured and fine with silky tannins, a very nice black berry dominated fruit and a medium long, iron clad finish. No need to wait 60 years, but give it 8+ years.

A very fine, upfront with notes of ripe blueberries, damsons, iron and lots of violets. A fine depth. Note of fir wood after a while.
The taste is tight and fine with notes of violets, blueberries, blotting paper and ink. Polished tannins. Very, very good. 6+ years. The 2021 Dolcetto´s are the real deal, best ever according to most producers.

A young, stern nose with notes of red currants, red cherries, licorice and smoke. A fine depth. Day two it displays notes of Lange earth, iron and mushrooms. Very, very good.
The taste is tight and focused with notes of hard cherry candy, salmiak, chrushed rocks and violets. The day after the tannins are more noticable and the fruit is more laid back. Needs time, 8+ years.

The taste is round, sweet and mature with notes of overripe strawberries, violets, moist earth, tobacco and a very fine acidity. Long and elegant. Perfectly mature. This is why you cellar wines.

A blend of 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Carinyena Negra (Carignan) and Garnatxa Negra (Grenache). A deep, forest filled nose with notes of leather, charcoal, fir wood and blackberries. Some dog fur note, in a positive way. Very fine.
The taste is tight and nicely concentrated with notes of plums, undergrowth, ink and fir wood. Very long and tasty. 6+ years.

A deep, profound nose with stunning notes of plums, ripe cherries, tobacco, iodine, dried strawberries and warm pine trees. Brilliant. 
The taste is tight and intense with every bolt and nut in their right place. Gorgeous fruit, polished tannine and a finish that goes on and on and on. From 85 year old vines. 3.458 bottles made. A beauty now and the coming 10+ years.

From Carinyena vines planted in 1901. A large scaled, high and intense nose with notes of plums, rosemary, sugared coffe, dark chocolate and pine wood. Very fine.
The taste is broad and beautiful with notes of ripe blueberries, leather, pine resin and scorched earth. Very, very long. Holds well for two days. 5+ years.

A deep, fine nose with notes of blackberries, dried strawberries, warm sand, pepper and tobacco. A very fine sweetness to the fruit.
The taste is balanced and handsome with seedy black fruit, polished tannins and a long warm finish. Very, very good. 4+ years. Garnatxa Negra, Syrah I Samso.

2016 Finca Butaros Vinya Centenaria, Mas Llunes
From a vineyard planted in the end of the 19th century, this is a impressive creature. The nose soars up from the glass with notes of thyme, overripe strawberries, orange peel, newly laid asphalt and toasted bread. Very deep and complex. 
The taste is rich, tight and concentrated with massive fruit, silky tannins and a lenght counted in minutes. Brilliant fruit. Gorgeously balanced. Calmed down a bit on day two, but still, a well mannered beast. 8+ years.

A open, broad nose with notes of red apples, shoe polish, rosemary, sweet/sour cherries and red wine vinegar. Deep and complex.
The taste is finely tuned with notes of hard cherry candy, scorched earth, earth and tobacco. Very, very long. 5+ years. 50% Garnatxa Roja and 50% Marselan.

A very deep, earthy nose, showing some maturity and fine notes of dried cherries, violets, fried mushrooms and asphalt. A gorgeous Langhe earth aroma after some time in the glass.
The taste is deep and rich with notes of sandelwood, licorice, dried up cherry jam and forest floor. A long, long finish with silky tannins. Will go on for another 6+ years, last tasted five years ago - Barolista: Election Barolo - 1997 Barolo Pajana, Domenico Clerico - when I said the same thing...

1959 Bordeaux - Six Bottles Tasted


I opened these bottles for our latest tasting in our monthly tasting group. I didn´t really expect all to perform well so I had a bunch of reserv bottles standing by. 
All were opened 4 hours before the tasting and decanted just 30 minutes before the first pour. The held up all evening and in some cases improved.

1959 Château Croque Michotte
A fine, sandy nose with notes of a worn leather jacket, dried plums, bonfire smoke and undergrowth. Low keyed and silky.
The taste is dry and medium bodied with notes of dried red and black currants, cold cofffe and old leather. A tad dry in the finish.

1959 Château La Tour du Pin Figeac
A deep, velvety nose with notes of plums, chocolate wafers, autumn leaves and coca-cola. Very, very good.
The taste is warm and open for business with lots of black fruit and a long, fine finish. Plums, coffee and chocolate. Bottles like this should go on for 5+ years.

1959 Château Chatain
My WOTN. I have never heard of, let alone tasted anything from this Lalande-de-Pomerol. A deep, layered nose with notes of fresh stables, black plums, moist forest floor and chewing tobacco. A lovely sweetness to the fruit.
The taste is concentrated and rich with notes of plums, raisins, tobacco and earth. Very long and balanced. Wish I had more of this.

1959 Château Larrivet-Haut-Brion
A somewhat restrained nose with notes of sandelwood, chocolate, black currants and warm tiles. Soft and fine.
The taste is dry and mature (!) with notes of dried black currants, autumn leaves and cigarette ashes. Tails of rather hastily. Fine fruit.

1959 Château Leoville Las Cases
I had high hopes for this one, but was disappointed. The nose is big and warm with notes of cooked red and black currants, burned earth, rubber and bonfire smoke. Feels like it have been stored a bit too warm.
The taste is tight and dry with cooked, dried fruit and notes of coffee, old leather and earth. Ends on a dry notes. Drinkable but not good.

A deep, seedy nose with notes of ripe black currants, charcoal, iron and lots of forest floor. Very, very good.
The taste is still rather tight, indicating that this has some future potential. Long and intense with notes of graphite, black tea and ripe black currants. A fine grip in the finish. 5+ years.

A finely tuned, medium deep nose with notes of red currants, some strawberries, paint, forest floor and lots of licorice. Very, very good.
The taste is young and silky with notes of hard cherry candy, dry licorice, mushrooms and asphalt. A fine lenght. More linear than the 2019 which I recently tasted at the cantina - Barolista: A Couple Of Days In Piedmont - Visit To Francesco Borgogno.

The taste is racy and elegant with notes of white currants, assorted nuts, cap gun smoke, white flowers and flint. Long, aristocratic. 4+ years.

A refined, cool nose with notes of lemon fudge, white flowers, grey pears and lots of minerals. Very fine.
The taste is young, tight and crisp with gorgeous fruit, a high acidity and a long, intense finish. Great wine. 6+ years.

A upfront, juicy nose with notes of pear ice cream, tangerines, grape and chalk. Very, very good.

2014 Scheurebe Kabinett, Keller
As usual, a stunner. The distinctive aroma og grapefruit oozes up from the glass alongside notes of apricots, dried flowers and chrushed rocks.
The taste is stony and fresh with notes of grapefruit, apricots, lime and minerals. Pure as a mountain river. No signs of aging. Could go on forever.

A fine, soft, mature nose with notes of dried yellow apples, petrol and sun warm rocks.
The taste is round and silky with notes of candied fruit, some rubbery notes and flint. Fully mature.

2020 Château Montrose
Apparently a 100 point wine all over the place. At this stage in its life, not for me. The nose jumps put of the glass with notes of cool black currants, espresso, charcoal and cool asphalt. Very, very deep.
The taste is very, very young, rich and concentrated with lots of tannins, lots of black fruit and lots of potential. Oooh, so young. Give this 20+ years, at least.

NV No 11 Hoffman Dollwitz, Sami-Odi
This Barossa beauty offers up a deep, handsome nose with ethereal notes of tobacco, beet root, moist earth, black fruit and wet dog fur. Immensly impressive.
The taste is brilliant with finesse, refinement and lots and lots of black fruit. A minute long finish. Truly exceptional. 
A kind of Solera wine - 46% of 2021, 18% of 2020, 16% of 2019, 2% of 2018, 9% of 2017, 5% of 2016 and 4% of 2015.

A deep, tight nose with notes of rosemary spiced black cherries, licorice, tobacco, new leather and a Tuscan gravel road. Very, very fine.

A somewhat mature, fresh nose with notes of violets, plums, cherries, iron and herbs. Very, very good.
The taste is cool and nicely structured with notes of dried cherries, herbs and dry licorice. A fine dry finish. 3+ years.

This has some Cabernet Sauvignon notes on the nose in the shape of black currants, fresh stables and leather, but there are also Sangiovese fingerprints in the shape of Tuscan gravel and rosemary. All in all a very fine nose.
The taste is rich and dry with notes of ripe cherries, violets, herbs and scorched earth. Tight and very fine.

This was my wine of the night. A stunning nose with intense notes of ripe flowers, ripe cherries, salt licorice, iodine and coffee. Breathtakingly beautiful.
The taste is tight and refined with notes of ripe cherries, salmiak, ink, sweet minerals and dried flowers. Layers upon layers. The finish goes on for over a minute. Great wine. 8+ years.

2020 Bien Nacido Vineyard Block 11 Syrah, Ledge
An impressive, intense and very deep nose with notes of ink, ripe blackberries and black cherries, new leather, Lily of the Valley and asphalt. Very, very fine.
The taste is tight and massive but also with a refinement that keeps it all together. Stunning fruit and intensity. Notes of ripe wild raspberries, iron, violets and blood pudding. A minute long finish. Stunning.

A low keyed, old school nose with notes of paint, red currants, dried strawberries, gravel and dried ceps. Some irony scents. A very high, fine nose.
The taste is more linear, very young and seedy with notes of dried flowers, red currants, violets and gravel. Polished tannins. Needs time, 8+ years.
