2013 Barolo, Massolino

First day in Italy, in Sirmione, on the shorline of Lake Garda, a bottle of 2013 Barolo caught my eye in a small wine shop. Opened and enjoyed on our balcony.

Since trying out this bottle we have been in Liguria for one and a half week, and I have been drinking Vermentino and Rossese left and right - a report on those bottles, and a report from a visit to Tenuta Anfosso, will follow.

2013 Barolo, Massolino
This is another successful Normale from the 13 vintage. There is a lot of forest and mushrooms on the nose alongside scents of sweet violets, a light veal stock and dark cherries. A good depth and focus. Very, very good.
The taste is tight and seedy with notes of sour/sweet cherries, violets, licorice and forest floor. A bit more restrained on the palate. Long. Needs 4-6 years, Will turn out fine.
