2004 Château La Sergue
This is a special cuvée from Château Haut-Chaigneau. The estate was created in 1977 and according to Stephen Brook it is "among the best and most dependable wines of Lalande de Pomerol".
The cuvée La Sergue was first made in 1996 and consist of more Merlot than Haut-Chaigneau (which is 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc) and gets more new barrique aging.
The nose is very fine, layered and elegant with notes of graphite, incense, plums and cafe au lait. A lovely balance.
The taste is medium bodied and velvety with a nice structure, fine red fruit and a long, cool finish. This is hitting well above its weight class. Very fine. Bought for 13 Euro...
