2006 Barolo Vigna Rionda, Luigi Pira

2006 Barolo Vigna Rionda, Luigi Pira
This adolescent needed a couple of hours in a decanter before offering up a lovely, complex nose with notes of ripe black cherries, asphalt, polished mahogany, iron and a touch of mint. Very pure and aristocratic. Lovely.
It was drunk over two day, on the second day the nose had become a tad more round and softer with dried black cherries, licorice and scorched earth. Still lovely!
The taste is seamless, structured and taut with notes of black cherries, violets, asphalt and warm tiles. Very long and intense. The tannins steamrolls over the palate. This needs lots of time, and today a steak.
On the second day the tannins appears a bit softer but they still make a mark on the palate. Wait 10+ years. Great wine.
